On October 1, the opening night of Dumbo's art season was set up as a walk. Participants were to meet at Smack Mellon at 6:30 p.m. and follow more than a dozen projections along the waterfront and the cobblestones to the galleries on Jay Street. Art in DUMBO and Team DUMBO billed it as the first-ever DUMBO Projection Walk. At 8 p.m. the evening moved into the Archway for an after-party with drinks by Smorgasburg. Nickodemus, described as a long-time friend of Dumbo, played an all-vinyl DJ set with live saxophone and percussion.
That night is when Dumbo's fall started. Over the summer, the neighborhood's free evening rhythm came from the lawn, with Movies with a View running Thursdays in July and August at Pier 1 Harbor View Lawn in Brooklyn Bridge Park. Starting in October, it comes from galleries, a theater and a handful of bars inside the old warehouse blocks. The busiest part of that calendar is the six days from October 31 through November 5.
The Gallery Calendar Runs October Through June
Art in DUMBO's First Thursdays Gallery Walk is back after its summer break. It's free, runs 6 to 8 p.m. on the first Thursday of each month, and includes late gallery hours, openings, artist talks and live performance. The DUMBO Improvement District lists the series as running October through June, which makes it the longest-running free evening program in the neighborhood. Movies with a View ran for two months. The gallery walk runs for nine. Superfine, which Art in DUMBO calls a Dumbo stalwart, offers drink specials on walk nights.
The roster is longer than most people expect. Art in DUMBO lists 21 participating venues, including 11.25 project space/Studio 214, which counts as one entry, A.I.R. Gallery, AMR Art Dumbo, BRIClab, Baci Studio, Canton Projects, Cuban Art Space, Gallery 55, Gallery Gaia, Higher Pictures, Loop of the Loom, Main Window, Mazlish + Wright Contemporary, Medium Rare Project Space, NowHere Studio Program, POOL, Smack Mellon, SoRA Sanctuary Gallery, Stump Gallery, Usagi NY and ZAROLAT.
Many of the exhibitions that opened for October are still up for the next walk on November 5. That date isn't printed on the Art in DUMBO page. It follows from the first-Thursday schedule. Several current listings run past that night:
- Smack Mellon, where the October 1 walk began
- Studio Delson Architecture, which is also hosting a separate event the night before
- POOL
- ZAROLAT
The wider October slate also includes shows at Canton Projects, Main Window, AMR Art Dumbo, Baci Studio, Stump Gallery, Cuban Art Space, SoRA Sanctuary Gallery, 11.25 project space/Studio 214, Medium Rare Project Space and Usagi NY. In practice, anyone who missed the opening walk can still see much of the same work on November 5, along with whatever opens that night.
A Listening Bar Opened on Sands Street
Restaurant openings in Dumbo have been sparse since late spring. The most useful addition for a fall weeknight is Don't Matter. According to Brooklyn Bridge Parents' August openings roundup, this vinyl listening bar opened August 5 at 55 Sands Street at Adams Street, with records, a proper sound system and a short drinks list.
Its timing fits the season. A room built around records and a sound system works best on the kind of night the gallery calendar creates: a weekday evening that starts around 6 and doesn't need a dinner reservation. The October 1 after-party was also an all-vinyl set, which shows the neighborhood's art crowd and its newest bar have a lot in common.
The DUMBO BID's Happy Hour runs on a similar monthly rhythm, every first Wednesday. The current roster includes Dawn's 'Til Dusk at 33 Main Street, Ziggy's Roman Cafe at 15 Main Street, Gair at 41 Washington Street, Kinjo at 11 Adams Street, Fontainhas at 28 Jay Street and The Rat. The October edition fell on October 7. The next is November 4, the night before the gallery walk.
St. Ann's Warehouse Splits the Season at November 1
St. Ann's Warehouse has its own fall schedule. Kramer/Fauci runs through October 24, with post-show talkbacks on Friday, October 16, and Friday, October 23.
Eight days later the theater changes completely. Tristan & Yseult runs November 1 through 22, 2026. Emma Rice and her company are bringing it back to St. Ann's after years of touring, from a script by Carl Grose and Anna Maria Murphy. The theater describes a production set in "The Club of the Unloved," with live music, low-fi aerial acrobatics and a band "that will have audiences clapping and dancing through their tears."
Its opening date matters for the neighborhood calendar. St. Ann's opens its November show on the Sunday after Dumboween, and the BID Happy Hour and First Thursday fall later that same week.
Six Days, Four Dates
From October 31 to November 5, Dumbo's fall calendar packs most of its fixed dates into one short stretch:
- Saturday, October 31: Dumboween. The DUMBO BID's annual Halloween event includes Howl-o-Ween at 2 p.m., the March to the Arch at 3 p.m., an Archway party from 3:30 to 6 p.m., and neighborhood trick-or-treating from 3 to 6 p.m.
- Sunday, November 1: Tristan & Yseult opens at St. Ann's Warehouse for a three-week run.
- Wednesday, November 4: two evening options. The BID Happy Hour returns on its first-Wednesday schedule, and Studio Delson hosts an AfterMined reception and artist talk.
- Thursday, November 5: First Thursdays Gallery Walk, free, 6 to 8 p.m., with exhibitions at Smack Mellon, Studio Delson, POOL and ZAROLAT still on view.
Only one of these dates is in the Archway, and that one is in daylight. The rest happen in theaters and galleries after dark.
What the Archway Has and Hasn't Confirmed
Under the Manhattan Bridge, much of the fall schedule is either fixed or still unconfirmed, and it helps to keep the two apart.
Confirmed: Jane's Carousel is on fall hours from September 14 through December 31, 2026. It's closed Mondays and Tuesdays and open 11 a.m. to 5:50 p.m. the rest of the week, so a weekday afternoon visit now has to be planned for Wednesday through Friday. The BID's events page also lists the first December dates: the Dumbo Tree Lighting on December 3, 2026, and Art in DUMBO's Shop the Studios on December 5.
Unclear: The BID's Happy Hour page marks the Dumbo Archway Bar "Closed in Oct" without explaining why. But Art in DUMBO's October 1 listing said the same bar would be selling drinks and snacks at the Projection Walk after-party. Neither page says whether the note means a full-month closure, a seasonal pause or simply a break from the Happy Hour lineup.
Undated: The Brooklyn Flea lists its Dumbo market at the Archway, 80 Pearl Street, every Saturday and Sunday. Its homepage gives hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. "through December 21st," but doesn't say which year. At Empire Stores, FAD Fall Pop-ups are advertised as three editions across September, October and November, also without specific dates. The holiday market details on the BID's separate holiday page are from last year.
As of mid-October, the gallery walk, the St. Ann's run and the BID's first-Wednesday Happy Hour are already set through November. For the summer version of this calendar, see our earlier read on Dumbo's waterfront season. For the blocks around these venues, see our Dumbo neighborhood page.
